Behind the board

The wood comes off first.

A new plastic board screwed over rotten timber hides the rot. It doesn't stop it. Here's one stretch of roof on one of our jobs, photographed the whole way through.

  4. The finished roofline over the patio doors: white fascia and a new black gutter04

What we fit

Every part of your roofline, in plain English.

Most people don't know a soffit from a bargeboard, and they shouldn't have to. Here's what each part does and what we fit.

  1. 1FasciaThe board along the bottom edge of the roof. Your gutter is fixed to it.
  2. 2SoffitThe board underneath that closes the gap between the fascia and the wall.
  3. 3Gutter and downpipeCarry the rain off your roof and down to the drain.
  4. 4BargeboardThe sloping board on a gable end.
  5. 5Dry vergeInterlocking caps along the gable edge, fixed on rather than bedded in mortar.
  6. 6Dry ridgeThe ridge along the top of the roof, fixed mechanically rather than bedded in mortar.
  7. 7Vents and bird combLet air into the roof space and keep birds out of the eaves.
  8. 8CladdinguPVC boards in place of worn timber cladding.

Questions

Questions people ask us

Can't you just fit new boards over the old ones?
Some firms do, because it's quicker. But a board fixed over rotten timber hides the rot rather than stopping it. We take the old boards off first so we can see what's underneath before anything new goes up.
What affects the price?
How long the run is, how high the house is, what access it needs, and how far any rot has gone. As a guide, a full replacement starts from £1,050 on a terraced house, £1,850 on a semi and £3,750 on a detached. See our prices.
Do I need scaffolding?
It depends on the height and the access. We'll tell you when we price the job.
What colours can I have?
The ones on this site are white, anthracite grey and black. If you want something else, ask.
Will it make a mess?
Old boards, nests and offcuts are bagged up as we go.
Do you work weekends?
We're Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Send the form any time and Richard will pick it up.
What if something's not right afterwards?
Ring Richard on 07835 889248, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Our workmanship is guaranteed for 10 years.
Does uPVC need looking after?
Not much. A wipe down now and then keeps it bright, and it never needs painting. The product comes with a 20 year guarantee.
